Foreign media: Trump said he was making a “decisive break” with past U.S. foreign policy, calling it “very stupid”
According to Agence France-Presse, US President Trump said on the 24th local time that he was making a “decisive break” with the past foreign policy of the United States and called it “very stupid.”
According to Agence France-Presse, Trump said at a joint press conference with visiting French President Macron at the White House in Washington, “My administration is making a decisive break with the foreign policy values of past governments, and frankly, (with) the past. I oppose the very stupid foreign policy establishment, whose recklessness has led to the death of many people.”
U.S. President Trump has recently “opened fire” against Ukrainian President Zelensky. On February 19, Trump criticized Zelensky on social media and accused Ukraine of “playing” the United States. Trump’s remarks were criticized by many European allies and caused considerable controversy in the United States. U.S. media and analysts pointed out that in the context of the recent frequent interactions between the Trump administration and Russia, Trump’s “continuous attack” on Zelensky may herald a major change in the U.S. stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its policy toward Russia.
The US “Washington Post” commented that Trump seems to be subverting the long-standing consensus of US political circles on Russia, which may be “the most significant geopolitical adjustment since World War II.” The US “Wall Street Journal” commented, “Alienating allies and moving closer to opponents, Trump seems to be abandoning the US foreign policy of the past decades.”
