On the 23rd local time, US Defense Secretary Austin stated in a phone call with Israeli Defense Secretary Katz that the United States is committed to resolving the Lebanon Israel conflict through diplomatic means to ensure the safe return of Israeli and Lebanese civilians to their homes. Austin also urged the Israeli government to continue taking measures to improve the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
That evening, the Israeli Defense Forces issued a statement stating that Michael Kurila, the commander of the US Central Command, arrived in Israel on the 22nd and held talks with Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Haley to assess the situation. The statement stated that the talks focused on discussing security strategy issues, particularly the Lebanon issue, as well as the continued deepening of cooperation between the Israeli military and the US military.
