The situation is a bit chaotic. The United States and Europe are at odds with each other. Is internal strife between the United States and Europe about to break out?

Once Trump interfered with this, the situation in Europe instantly became chaotic! In the short term, the United States can gain a lot of benefits by promoting a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, but what about the long term? This move by the United States will lead to a complete separation between the United States and Europe. If we want to repair the relationship between the United States and Europe in the future, how much will it cost?

It all starts with the meeting between the United States and Russia held in Saudi Arabia a few days ago. Europe also made great efforts on Ukraine, but failed to attend.

Karas, the head of EU diplomacy, was so angry that he slammed the table: “Don’t let Europe get involved in European affairs? No way!” But reality slaps in the face: Germany’s military expenditure is only 2.18% of GDP, and it can’t even make up its own tanks. France’s nuclear deterrent can only cover its homeland. How can it be tough with Russia?

At the previous Munich Security Conference, U.S. Vice President Vance publicly criticized Europe for “internal corruption leading to a security crisis,” while French and German leaders accused the United States of “using the Ukraine crisis to drain Europe dry.” This public quarrel indicates that the transatlantic alliance has entered a “post-Trump shock period” – even if Biden returns to the White House, Europe’s trust in the United States will be difficult to repair.

Macron convened a meeting with European bigwigs overnight, but after three hours of arguing, no agreement was reached – Poland clamored to send troops, Hungary refused to give up military aid, and Germany was afraid of offending Russia. It was like “one table of mahjong and three deadbeats.” The EU gritted its teeth and provided an additional 3.5 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, even moving out the “Patriot” missiles that were kept at the bottom of the box, for fear that the Russian army would actually invade Kiev.

Von der Leyen said harshly: “Sixteen rounds of sanctions continue to choke Russian banks and energy, let’s see how long they can last!” She shouted to continue to impose sanctions on Russia, but she was very honest – Germany secretly used rubles to buy Russian gas, and French nuclear power plants bought American uranium mines at high prices. The sanctions have caused energy prices to increase fourfold.

The vote on the United Nations resolution on Ukraine on February 24, 2025 was a landmark event in the breakup of the United States and Europe. The United States and Russia jointly opposed the European proposal. In the resolution “condemning Russian aggression” initiated by the European Union, the United States and Russia rarely voted together against it, while 67 countries including China and India abstained. Europe now feels humiliated by diplomacy. Former French Prime Minister Verhofstadt denounced this as “a shameful moment in American history.” The German Social Democratic Party also said that “transatlantic trust is dead.”

Europe is also beginning to wake up a bit. The Italian Institute of International Affairs called for “reduce dependence on U.S. energy and armaments.” Germany’s Rheinmetall accelerated the research and development of independent weapons. The European Union also launched the “Defense Expenditure Exemption Clause” to allow member states to expand their military beyond fiscal deficit limits. But it is quite difficult to break through the current structural shackles. In terms of security, 70% of Europe’s air defense systems and 90% of its intelligence networks under the NATO framework are controlled by the United States. Economically, technological lifeblood such as SWIFT systems and chip manufacturing are also in the hands of the United States, and ASML has been forced to stop supplying to European companies.

Trump even made harsh words, “If Europe doesn’t pay enough protection fees, Russia will beat you at your doorstep.” Then he turned around and hooked up with Putin to discuss energy cooperation. Only then did the EU realize that the United States had long since shifted its strategic focus to the Indo-Pacific to contain China, and Europe had become a “has-been ally” that could be thrown away at any time.

Macron boasted last year that he wanted to be the “third pole of the world”, but now he is slapped in the face by reality – the Nord Stream pipeline was bombed and he dared not inspect it, buying natural gas depends on the face of the United States, and even Airbus was sanctioned for selling fighter jets to Saudi Arabia.
