The United States once again wields the tariff stick, and many parties strongly oppose it!
On March 26, US President Trump signed an executive order at the White House to impose a 25% tariff on US imported cars. The relevant measures will take effect on April 2. Since taking office in January this year, the new US government has frequently wielded the tariff “stick” against major trading partners, prompting relevant countries to take countermeasures to safeguard their own interests. The United States’ wanton use of tariffs has not only harmed the interests of other countries, but also greatly increased the uncertainty of the US economy and had a profound negative impact on its own interests. In response to US President Trump’s announcement of a 25% tariff on US imported cars, Germany, Canada, Japan, and the European Union have all spoken out against the new US tariff policy and said they will consider taking measures to respond.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on the 26th local time that the US tariffs on imported cars were a direct attack, and Canada would defend its own industry and the country and would respond soon by considering retaliatory tariffs. Ontario Premier Ford said on social media that he fully supported the move by the Canadian federal government to take retaliatory tariffs.
